Contractors in Uttarakhand, engaged in the Jal Jeevan Mission-related work, will stage a march to the Secretariat and sit-in there on Wednesday to demand prompt clearance of their dues. The protest will be held under the banner of the ‘Devbhoomi Jal Shakti Contractor Welfare Association, Dehradun,’ said the president of the association, Amit Agarwal on Tuesday.
“We gave the chief minister three days to address this issue following the meeting with the secretary of the Peyjal Nigam. But unfortunately, no positive action has been taken at the government level. This indifference on the part of the government has left us with no alternative but to take to the streets to press our legitimate demands,” he said.
He added that the march would begin at 11:30 AM from the SWSM office and then proceed towards the Secretariat, to be followed by an indefinite sit-in there.
The main demands include immediate clearance of all pending payments under the Jal Jeevan Mission and a clarification from the CM office on the issue, Agarwal stated.
