Minister Das pays tributes to Mussoorie statehood martyrs

Cabinet Minister Khajan Das on Wednesday paid tribute to the statehood martyrs who had fallen to bullets in Mussoorie on September 2 in 1994. While addressing a memorial programme at Shaheed Sthal in Dehradun, he recalled the events leading to the statehood activists’ martyrdom. “Statehood activists gathered in Mussoorie when police opened fire on them.  Those killed included the women activists. The deputy superintendent of police, Umakant Tripathi was also killed while attempting to save the protesters,” he said.

Remembering the sacrifices made during the statehood movement, Das said that the people of Uttarakhand should work together to build a strong and prosperous state in tune with the aspirations of the activists who had fought for its creation. The director of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) Vishal Gupta along with a number of statehood activists was present on the occasion.
