Minister directs URRDA to restore traffic on all rural roads

The Rural Development minister Ganesh Joshi has directed the officers of the Uttarakhand Rural Roads Development Agency (URRDA) that the roads blocked due to the heavy rains in the State should be reopened on priority and work should be done on war footing to ensure this. The minister gave the order while chairing a meeting of the URRDA officers on the blocked roads which are under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) at his camp office on Saturday.
In the meeting, Joshi also held a telephonic talk with the chief secretary Anand Bardhan in which he directed that concrete action should be taken for reconstruction of the damaged bridges in the State. He said that the reconstruction work of the damaged bridges should be expedited so that the rural people don’t face problems.
The officers told the minister that a total of 166 roads in the State are blocked due to heavy and incessant rainfall. They informed that 142 roads are blocked in the Garhwal division and 24 in Kumaon division. A total of seven bridges have been damaged and two of them have been swept away. The officers claimed that work is underway on a war footing to reopen the blocked roads. A total of 91 mechanical excavators have been deployed in Garhwal division and 13 excavators in Kumaon division have been deployed to clear the debris from the blocked roads.
The chief engineer of URRDA Sanjay Kumar and other officers of the department attended the meeting.
