The police have started a new campaign called Operation Punarmilan to stop human trafficking and protect vulnerable children in the region. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been prepared for anti-human trafficking teams in all seven districts. Officers have been directed to ensure that no suspicious activity takes place in their areas, especially involving children who have lost their parents after disasters. The police will make sure these children feel safe and get secure environment.

Garhwal inspector general of police Rajeev Swaroop said that they have received complaints that some people from other States come here, get married, and then take women to other States. To check such cases, a woman sub-inspector and a head constable will act as guardians. They will visit the homes of these women and collect information about their safety and wellbeing.

He said Uttarakhand receives devotes from all over the country. However, the police have noticed an increase in begging activities. Even though action has been taken earlier, complaints continue to come in. Many times, children have been seen begging along with beggar groups. The police will now find out where these children have come from and whether they really belong to the adults accompanying them.

A detailed investigation will be carried out to confirm the identity and relationship of each child. He added, the police will ensure that no child is brought illegally into state or forced to beg. If anyone is found involved in such activities, strict action will be taken. Along with this, anti-human trafficking units will keep a close watch to prevent any such crimes in the future.
