Panchayat Polls in Pauri: 4045 candidates in fray after 246 withdraw

A total of 246 candidates in the district have withdrawn their nomination papers for the three-tier Panchayat election slated in two phases in the State. Earlier, 315 nominations had been cancelled during the scrutiny of nomination papers.

According to the information received from the Panchayat election control room, the candidates who had withdrawn from the race were to contest for the posts of gram panchayat member, gram pradhan, kshetra panchayat member and district panchayat member. After the withdrawal of their names, the final list of candidates for the respective posts has been prepared.  A total of 4045 candidates are in the fray.

As per the final list, 143 candidates are in the fray for the post of gram panchayat member, 2545 for the post of gram pradhan, 1194 for the post of kshetra panchayat member and 163 for the post of zilla panchayat member. Whereas 2049 candidates have been elected unopposed for the post of gram panchayat member, the figures are 187 for the post of gram pradhan and 24 for the post of kshetra panchayat member. No candidate has been elected unopposed for the post of zilla panchayat member.
