Police restrict traffic to Mussoorie, monitor exam centres amid heavy rain in Dehradun

Police placed barriers and restricted the movement of heavy vehicles to Mussoorie after a portion of the road near the Dehradun Zoo culvert collapsed on Sunday. Dehradun Police was on high alert since heavy rainfall began on Saturday night. Due to the rain, a portion of the road near the Dehradun Zoo culvert collapsed. In response, police placed barriers and restricted the movement of heavy vehicles on the route.

Authorities requested tourists travelling to Mussoorie to avoid this stretch and use alternative routes instead. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh monitored the situation personally throughout the Saturday night and in the wee hours of Sunday. Police teams remained active on the ground, addressing various weather-related concerns.

The police administration placed all officers and personnel on alert to respond to any emergencies. Singh said that in view of a competitive examination scheduled across 96 centres in the district on Sunday, police took necessary steps to ensure examinees could reach their centres without disruption. Police patrols remained active near examination centres to prevent traffic-related issues caused by the rainfall. Near Kirshali Chowk, a side wall of a four-storey building showed signs of potential collapse.

The police evacuated the building to prevent any mishap. Teams from the local police, SDRF and Fire Services were deployed at the location for further precautions and monitoring. The Dehradun police continued to coordinate efforts across the city, taking preventive measures and providing assistance in response to ongoing rainfall and red alert warnings issued by the meteorological centre, he said.
