Power supply restored in most disaster hit villages: UPCL

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has claimed that it has restored power supply in most of the villages affected by the disaster triggered by heavy rains on Friday in Rudraprayag and Bageshwar districts. The corporation data shows that a total of 258 villages were affected in Rudraprayag district, mainly in Chenigad, Jakholi and Tapovan areas. The UPCL claims that it has restored power supply in 245 of these villages by Saturday afternoon and supply in the remaining 13 villages will be restored soon.
The UPCL managing director AK Yadav said that the promptness with which the work was done in this restoration work under the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is an example of UPCL’s efficiency.
He said that an 11 KV line was also disrupted due to heavy rains in Kapkot block of Bageshwar district, affecting supplies in about 50 villages.
The MD also chaired a review meeting held at his office on Saturday to study the situation created by the disaster in the State. In the meeting the MD sought current status of power supply, damage caused by the disaster, progress of restoration works and future preparations. All chief engineers, superintending engineers and executive engineers participated in the meeting through video conferencing. The MD directed the officials to immediately submit a detailed report of the total loss caused by the disaster in the meeting. He said that continuous monitoring of available stored material should be done and temporary storage centres should be established in disaster prone areas, so that quick options are available at the time of restoration.
