Maharaj seeks Centre’s support to boost winter Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand

Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj met Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Dehradun on Sunday and discussed the need for greater Central assistance to promote the Winter Char Dham Yatra. Maharaj informed Shekhawat about ongoing tourism and cultural initiatives in the State and highlighted future plans to strengthen Uttarakhand’s position on the global tourism map.
The meeting took place at a private residence on Laxmi Road in Dehradun. During the interaction, Maharaj requested support from the Centre to improve infrastructure in the tourism sector. He said that the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led State government is working in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to expand the scope of winter tourism.
He also spoke about efforts to develop Uttarakhand as a wedding destination and shared details of schemes aimed at promoting tourism and creating local employment. These include the Uttarakhand Tourism Entrepreneur Promotion Scheme and the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Paryatan Swarozgar Yojana, which encourage investment and self-employment in the tourism sector.
Maharaj said that with stronger infrastructure and sustained support from the Centre, Uttarakhand can significantly increase tourist footfall throughout the year. He added that collaborative efforts between the State and Union governments will play a key role in making tourism a major driver of economic growth and employment in the State.
