Wrong U-turns and haphazard parking by parents outside The Hill Grange School in Dalanwala have become a daily nightmare for commuters, prompting the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Dehradun Division to intervene.
It is important to mention that the school is located on the busy EC of the city. It has been observed that during said school dispersal time, parents come to pick up children, park their vehicles on the road at random places and take U-turns from spots where it is not allowed, leading to traffic congestion for hours and causing problems for commuters using roads connected to the school.
Regional transport officer, Dehradun Division, Sandeep Saini said it is a matter of concern. He said he himself observed that instead of taking a U-turn 500 metres away, parents take a wrong U-turn, leading to congestion on both sides.
The situation violates traffic rules, causes traffic jams and can also lead to accidents, he said.
“Considering this is serious, we will ask the Hill Grange School to firstly educate parents to follow traffic rules and take U-turn 500 metres away where space is provided, not just outside the school gate. The school will also be asked to deploy security guards at the gate to ensure no such activity is done and traffic congestion is overcome,” Saini said.
Welcoming this intervention of the RTO, commuters who use the road have appreciated the initiative, saying they often face congestion on the school road. The RTO should ensure the school follows directions to solve problems of commuters, they said.
