The Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested a drug smuggler from the Banbasa area of Champawat district with heroin worth approximately Rs 92 lakh. Acting jointly with Banbasa Police, the STF Kumaon Unit, Rudrapur, recovered 309.96 grammes of heroin from the accused during an operation near Dhanush Pul outpost.
The officials informed that the accused was identified as Shakur Ahmad(54), a resident of Abbas Nagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. He was caught with the contraband while riding a motorcycle bearing registration number UP 26 DU 9608.
During interrogation, Shakur admitted that he had brought the heroin from a man named Arbaaz in Bareilly and intended to deliver it to a contact in Nepal near the border, as per the officials. They claimed that the STF has obtained names of other drug traffickers during questioning and is preparing further action.
The criminal history of the accused is also being examined. According to them, from January 2025 to date, the ANTF Kumaon Unit has recovered 10.753 kilogrammes of charas, 1.203 kilogrammes of heroin, 7.41 grammes of MDMA and 2.513 kilogrammes of opium.
