The Special Task Force (STF) and Udham Singh Nagar police recovered a cache of illegal weapons, ammunition and fake arms licences from a parked car in Kashipur on Wednesday. The STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that action has been taken against fake arms licence and illegal weapons. “So far, we have registered three cases related to fake arms licences and sent five accused persons to jail in this matter”.

According to Singh, a tip-off was received about a car carrying illegal weapons in the Katoratal area of Kashipur. “During the raid the police recovered four illegal firearms, including a 12-bore pump-action shotgun, a .22 bore semi-automatic rifle, a .32 bore semi-automatic pistol and a .32 bore revolver from the vehicle,” he said. The team also recovered 237 live cartridges of different calibres, four magazines and seven fake arms licences from the car.

Officials said the recovery was made during the investigation of a case registered by STF at Kashipur police station on June 4. Singh said that the recovered weapons, ammunition and forged licences are linked to accused Saurabh Agarwal, Gaurav Agarwal and Deepti Agarwal, all residents of Kashipur.

He said that fake arms licences pose a serious threat to public safety, law and order and national security. He added that Uttarakhand police is following a zero-tolerance policy against such offences.
