With the people, in general, and the youngsters, in particular, choosing fast foods over the traditional and regional nutritious food, several health problems like obesity, type two diabetes and cardiovascular disorders are arising. Taking note of this spiralling trend of fast food consumption and resultant health disorders, the Government BD Pandey District Hospital is providing treatment as well as health advice. The doctors expressed concern over the lifestyle and food habits of the people of Nainital town changing rapidly to the detriment of their health. Speaking of this matter, a senior physician at the hospital, M S Dugtal said that consumption of fast food could negatively impact children’s health. “Fast food is high in calories, sugar and bad fats. This increases the risk of diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure aside from causing weight gain. The same applies to the young and elderly people. Though aware of their negative health impact, they cannot resist the temptation of gorging such food. We try to reorganise their lifestyle while recommending nutritious diet aside from providing treatment at the hospital,” he said, adding that the people instead should go for regional and traditional food along with fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits which give the body the required nutrients.
