A tiger was recently sighted carrying a large python after hunting it in the Jhirna range of Corbett Tiger Reserve. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, attracting widespread attention from wildlife lovers.
The rare sighting was captured by a tourist during a jungle safari in the Jhirna tourism zone. The footage shows an adult tiger calmly walking into the forest while firmly holding the python in its jaws.
Wildlife expert Deep Rajwar said that tigers usually prey on Cheetal, Sambar, wild boar, Nilgai and other ungulates. However, under certain circumstances, they may also hunt large reptiles such as pythons, although such incidents are rare. This is why the video from Corbett has become a subject of considerable interest among wildlife experts. He added that pythons are not a regular part of a tiger’s diet, making this encounter even more remarkable.
Corbett Tiger Reserve director Saket Badola said that such incidents are rarely witnessed in the wild. “A tiger normally satisfies its hunger by hunting deer and other ungulates. Seeing a tiger carrying a python in its jaws is an exceptionally rare and fascinating sight. However, this is a part of nature and reflects the realities of life in the wild,” he said.
