Transport department seizes 57 illegally assembled vehicles in Dehradun

The Transport department shut down 57 illegally assembled vehicles in a three-day enforcement drive in Dehradun. The enforcement teams also detained 23 other vehicles and collected about Rs four lakh in penalties during the drive.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of regional transport officer (Enforcement) Anita Chamola and led by assistant regional transport officer (Enforcement) Pankaj Srivastava. Chamola informed that the enforcement teams operated across various roads in the city. Several of these makeshift vehicles were destroyed with the consent of their owners.
She said that the teams also warned traders who had provided such vehicles for goods transportation. The department is coordinating with the State Tax department for further action against repeated violations, she said. According to her, such modifications are against the rules and the department will conduct similar drives in various cities of the division to take appropriate action against offenders.
