Urban Development secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that the State government is committed to establishing a modern, safe and sustainable urban transportation system in line with chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision. He said this while chairing a review meeting on Tuesday in which the progress of the much-anticipated projects in Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar were also discussed.
Officials informed that the proposed ropeway project from Triveni Ghat to Neelkanth Temple has received the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and approvals. This project aims to enhance the convenience for pilgrims while also helping to alleviate mountain traffic congestion.
A request was also made during the meeting to conduct a Detailed Feasibility Study (DFC) for the proposed Integrated Ropeway Project -connecting DDU Parking, Chandi Devi, Mansa Devi and the Multimodal Hub- in Haridwar city. Kumar set February 18 as the target date for the DFC process and instructed that the project’s feasibility report be assessed by the PPP cell. Kumar said that the proposed e-BRTS project in Dehradun includes two corridors. Following the meeting, the secretary, conducted a joint on-site inspection of the first proposed corridor.
He emphasised that this project should be prioritised due to the capital’s growing population and traffic pressure. Three major corridors are proposed under the PRT project in Dehradun. Kumar also said that the Triveni-Neelkanth and Haridwar ropeway projects are in advanced stages and that their completion should be prioritised. The integrated transit systems are essential for rapidly developing cities like Dehradun and Haridwar. The ropeway, PRT and e-BRTS projects will not only reduce traffic congestion but also contribute to environmental protection and the promotion of tourism. He directed officials to ensure that all projects are executed with quality, transparency and timelines, he added.
