Unemployed nursing graduates continue agitation, threaten escalation

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Unemployed nursing graduates from across the State continued their protest under the banner of the Nursing Ekta Manch (NEM) at Ekta Vihar on Tuesday, seeking action on their unaddressed demands. They have warned of intensifying their agitation if their concerns remain unaddressed. The protesters, who have been demonstrating for several days, seek a transparent recruitment process, advocating for selections based on year-wise seniority of candidates who have completed their qualifying examinations, along with other demands.
During their prolonged protest, the unemployed nursing graduates earlier attempted to march towards the chief minister’s residence. They had recently met with the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, who had assured them that positive action would be taken once their proposal reached the government level. Considering this, the NEM president Naval Pundir had earlier stated that all doubts had been cleared during this meeting. The CM had promised positive action on their demands within eight to 10 days. Despite this timeframe, Pundir said that the protest would continue until a written decision is issued regarding their demands.
He said that Tuesday marked the 19th day of their protest, adding that it would continue till direct action is taken on their demands. Pundir said that after their recent meeting with the CM, they also met the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat, who assured them that action on their demands would be forthcoming. Given these assurances from Rawat, the protest has been and will continue till action is taken on their demands. If no action is taken regarding their demands within a week, they plan to escalate their protest to include candle marches and other forms of demonstration, he said.
