UPCL, MD conducts surprise inspection of undergrounding work of cables

 The Managing Director of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) AK Yadav has directed the officers to ensure that the work of undergrounding of overhead power lines currently in progress in Dehradun is done in accordance with established technical standards, BIS specifications and safety protocols. He said that the proper on-site supervision, deployment of experienced technical staff and regular monitoring should be carried out of the undergrounding of the cables work.

 The MD gave the order while conducting a surprise inspection of Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded underground power cabling works in the Synergy Hospital area at Canal Road and Ballupur Chowk on Friday.   The director (operations), superintending engineer (ADB), project nodal officer and representatives of the work executing agencies were present during the inspection.

The MD directed the agencies to complete all work as quickly and in a timely manner as possible, minimizing inconvenience to the public.

During the inspection, the MD also interacted with local residents and listened to their concerns. He directed officials and work executing agencies to maintain constant coordination with the local population and to prioritize the safety and convenience of citizens. Instructions were also given to ensure proper road barricades, signals, reflective road signs at night and traffic management. 

Yadav also instructed all teams to work under a ‘zero incident protocol’ to minimize the possibility of any kind of accident during the work. He also directed that all concerned officers and agencies submit a detailed action plan regarding line charging of feeders, shutdown plan and network integration within the stipulated time frame, so that the system can be started smoothly and there is no disruption in power supply. 

Yadav claimed that this project will provide international-level security and reliability to Dehradun’s power system. Therefore, all agencies should perform their responsibilities with care, quality and promptness. He clarified that any compromise on the project’s quality will not be acceptable, and strict action will be taken if negligence is found.
