Uttarakhand’s first government-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centre will soon open in Dehradun. The district administration has taken responsibility for setting up and operating the facility following the directions of the Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The centre will function from the first floor of the government old-age home in Raiwala, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said.
He informed that the district administration has approved a budget of Rs 57.04 lakh for the establishment of the centre. The administration has prepared a complete action plan and will select an experienced NGO for the operation of the 30-bed facility. The plan includes providing treatment, counselling and rehabilitation services to individuals addicted to drugs or other substances, he said.
Bansal said that currently, there is no government-operated de-addiction centre in the State or the district. The upcoming centre aims to provide structured treatment and support for those seeking to overcome addiction. He stated that the proposed site in Raiwala includes 13 rooms with attached bathrooms, a hall and two office spaces. The allocated funds include Rs 22.56 lakh for the six-month salaries of 22 approved posts, Rs 9.48 lakh for building maintenance, medicines, utility bills, transport, stationery and meals, and Rs 25 lakh for furniture, mattresses, utensils, computers, biometric machines and other necessary item, Bansal added.
The DM has directed the Social Welfare officer to select an NGO through a committee process. The administration will ensure proper arrangements for registration, OPD, isolated rooms, staff rooms, store rooms and a waiting area at the centre, he added.
