Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey has directed officials to take time-bound measures to improve cleanliness, ensure safe movement of commuters and maintain transparency in construction and development works across the city.
During a meeting with officials on Thursday, Pandey directed that special cleanliness drives be conducted in all municipal wards. Grass and bushes growing along main roads, internal lanes and link roads, along with garbage and other waste, should be removed immediately. Ward-wise daily reports of the cleanliness work, accompanied by photographs, will have to be submitted. Officials and employees found negligent will be held accountable. Pandey also directed the officials to conduct a physical survey of pothole ridden and rain and waterlogging damaged municipal roads and complete necessary repairs and patchwork within 15 days to make the roads pothole-free. The quality and progress of repair works will be reviewed regularly.
To ensure transparency in construction and development works, the officials will be required to conduct a site inspection before starting any work and attach photographs with GPS location details and a certificate establishing the need for the work to the relevant file. Before and after photographs must be taken from the same direction. To prevent duplication of works and ensure proper use of public funds, the officials will also have to verify that similar work at the proposed site has not already been sanctioned or proposed under any other scheme or department.
The municipal commissioner said that payments would not be processed if the prescribed procedures and directions were not followed. Accountability would be fixed on the concerned executive engineer, assistant engineer and junior engineer. He directed the officials to give top priority to civic amenities, cleanliness, safe movement and quality development works and ensure that all projects are completed in a timely and transparent manner.
