The construction of the new Adhat Bazaar on Haridwar bypass road is nearing completion, with residents in its current location along with traders looking forward to relief from various issues. About 90 per cent of the work has been completed so far, while nearly 95 per cent of the parking lot is already ready. The existing Adhat Bazaar covers a considerable area from Saharanpur Chowk to near the Tehsil Chowk. Due to its location in the busy centre of the city with the railway station nearby, its relocation is aimed at improving infrastructure and reducing traffic congestion in the city.
A total of 410 properties have been affected by the project. Out of them, 19 properties belong to government departments, including police, Uttarakhand Tourism, Municipal Corporation and Railways. These government properties have been handed over to the district magistrate for further action, but no major decision has been taken on them yet. The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) secretary Mohan Singh Barnia said that out of the 410 affected property owners, 171 had demanded cash compensation, while others had opted for plots. So far, compensation of about Rs 23 crore has been distributed. He further informed that 65 property registrations have already been completed, while 50 more will be completed within the next two to three days.
Barnia added that the process of plot allotment will begin this week and that all preparations for it have been completed. The remaining development work has been ordered to be finished on a war footing to ensure the project is completed soon. Once completed, the new market is expected to provide better facilities to traders and help ease traffic pressure in the city.
