CM Dhami directs fast disposal of the cases in revenue courts

About 34,000 cases related to land disputes, mutation are pending in these courts

Expressing concern on the large number of pending cases in the revenue courts of Uttarakhand, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that the disposal of these cases should be done in a mission mode. On Saturday the CM suggested that a special campaign should be undertaken to dispose of the pending cases in the revenue courts of the State. Expressing displeasure at the working style of the revenue courts, the CM has directed the Chairman Revenue Board to immediately convene a meeting of the presiding officers of all the revenue courts in the state. He also directed the commissioner and the secretary to hold regular reviews and inform him about the progress made in the disposal of the cases in revenue courts of the state.

It is pertinent to mention here that the revenue courts were constituted for the cases pertaining to agricultural land disputes which included division of the farms, mutation right declarations and removal of encroachments. These courts have been bestowed with powers at par with the civil courts but despite all this even the petty land disputes are pending for years together in the revenue courts. As of now the courts of the revenue board, commissioner, collector, additional collector, assistant collector, Tehsildar and Nayab Tehsildar function as revenue courts. About 34,000 cases are pending in these courts and out of them there are hundreds of such cases which are more than three year old.

Expressing his strong disapproval on the progress of the disposal of the cases, Dhami said that the State government is working on a mantra of ‘simplification, solution, disposal and satisfaction and fulfil this a special campaign should be undertaken for fast disposal of cases in the revenue courts. The CM would take a review of the progress of the disposal of the revenue cases during his visits to the districts.
