The chief secretary Anand Bardhan has directed the Technical Education department to hold special Rojgar Melas and invite overseas employers in them to ensure employment opportunities for the youth in foreign countries. He gave the order while chairing a review meeting of the department at the State secretariat on Thursday.
In the meeting, he emphasized the need to focus on quality education. He also stated the need to bridge the gap between educational institutions and industry. Directing the administration for the preparation of a roadmap for the State’s technical education sector, the CS said that the development of five to six locations in the State as technical education hubs.
The CS that all facilities, including labs, libraries and hostels, be made available in one location. He said that a holistic plan be developed for new projects, including a comprehensive plan for labs, libraries and hostels. He also called for the development of saturation plans for existing engineering and polytechnic colleges.
The CS said that the students graduating from engineering and polytechnic colleges need to be guided to avail themselves of the PM Internship Scheme, which provides real-world work experience in the country’s top 500 companies, along with a monthly stipend and a one-time joining grant.
Stressing on the need to strengthen the colleges, the CS said that departments have to hire outside agencies for studies and consultancy. “We can develop institutions within the state that provide studies and consultancy to various departments. To do this, we must strengthen our colleges,’’ he said.
Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha, vice chancellor Uttarakhand Technical University Tripta Thakur and the principals of Polytechnic Colleges of the State attended the meeting.
