The State government has approved the construction of a 50-bed hospital in Piran Kaliyar and also approved the funds for it. A Unani medical college will be built here soon, said chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He was speaking at a function organised to mark Minorities Rights Day on Sunday. He also inaugurated a free online coaching facility for students of minority communities on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dhami said that this occasion is for remembering fundamental duties of citizens to maintain the unity and enrich the harmony of the nation. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unprecedented work had been done for minority welfare. “Providing refuge to the persecuted communities of the world has been our ancient tradition. This was exemplified with the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act under PM Modi’s leadership. To protect the rights of Muslim women the implementation of the triple talaq law was a historic decision. Various schemes are being run by the Centre for the welfare of the minorities. The State government too is providing various schemes for this purpose. The Mukhyamantri Alpsankhyak Protsahan Yojana was started to encourage students of minority communities to increase their representation in various competitive exams. Special grant is also being provided for the education of meritorious girl students of minority community. The Rs four crore minorities development fund was set up for economic and social development in minority areas as per the requirement. Further, provision for interest-free loan to facilitate vocational education of poor students from minority communities has been made under Maulana Azad Education Finance Foundation scheme,” said the chief minister. He also viewed exhibits at the various stalls put up by different departments at the venue.
Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi said that under PM Modi’s leadership work is being undertaken to ensure the progress of all sections of society. Stating that it is important to seriously discharge fundamental duties while enjoying the rights, he said that the cooperation of all sections of society is needed for the holistic development of the State.
Uttarakhand minorities commission chairman RK Jain said that the commission is undertaking public awareness campaigns consistently for the welfare of minorities. The members of minority communities are being made aware of the schemes being run by the Central and State governments for their welfare, he said.
Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ also expressed his views on the occasion.
