Congress responsible for neglecting treatment following Joshimath report: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the Congress which is now lecturing on the Joshimath land subsidence issue should state what its governments did during their terms in office after the 1976 report on the basis of which it is now questioning the government. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the Congress was directly or indirectly in power for most of the period after the report on Joshimath land subsidence came out in 1976. The Congress should explain which administrative, scientific or technical treatments it executed in Joshimath as per the said report.

Bhatt said, “The government is working on war footing for the redressal of this disaster and ensuring relief to the affected families. The opposition is trying to exploit the disaster and busy in efforts to defame the government. It is important for all to stand with the affected persons in Joshimath but even in such a time there is a competition underway in the Congress. Its leaders are in a race against each other. The mentality of exhibiting who is active and who is lagging in front of the party’s high command is a fraud with the sentiments of the affected families of Joshimath,” said the BJP State president.

Bhatt further said that the government is working on all the immediate and long term solutions to provide relief to the affected families. The BJP organisation is also working with the government on the ground for the affected families. However, the Congress leaders are busy making political statements on this disaster and sensitive issue. He said, “It is unfortunate when like leaders of an irresponsible political party they at times level false allegations and then go silent while at times they accuse the government of being apathetic to the situation. In this disaster situation, the government, BJP organisation and the entire State stands with the people of Joshimath. I appeal to the opposition to not let their sensitivity die and to adopt a positive approach,” he added.
