The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is stepping up its outreach among youth in Uttarakhand and plans to hold a physical meet at Gandhi Park here this weekend as part of efforts to bring young people together and raise public concerns. A digital meeting was held to discuss these issues on Sunday.
The meet is likely to be held on Saturday or Sunday, although the exact date is yet to be finalised. The party is also working to build youth communities across the State and plans to organise a larger protest in Dehradun after completing a series of meetings. The date and other details of the proposed protest are yet to be announced.
CJP north zone coordinator Shreshth Singh Khera told The Pioneer that the party would focus on four key issues. “Our motive is to raise the concerns of the people. There are four major issues we want to focus on- improving the education system in government schools, addressing corruption that directly affects the common public, stopping the misuse of the police and ensuring that people are able to raise their voices without being suppressed and establishing accountability in every government department,” he said.
Khera criticised the functioning of the State administration and said that FIRs were sometimes not registered and action was not taken despite complaints. He also referred to the Ankita Bhandari case while questioning why the matter was not handed over to the CBI at the appropriate time. “Why did the public have to protest and face lathi charge before action was taken? If the system had done its job in the first place, people would not have been forced to come out on the streets,” he said.
Participant Manoj Soni said that young people needed to raise their voices and take responsibility for their concerns. Another participant Pradeep Singh said that greater youth participation was needed to address issues in Dehradun and push for changes in the functioning of the government and administration. Khera said that further details about the Gandhi Park meet and proposed protest would be announced after the schedule is finalised.
