9K pilgrims register for Badrinath-Kedarnath on Tuesday
Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj directed all departments to ensure timely preparations for the Char Dham Yatra and lay special focus on acclimatisation and carrying capacity. He said that this time, the pilgrims will have four options to register for the pilgrimage. The minister informed that the Char Dham Yatra will begin on April 22 with the reopening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri followed by reopening of Kedarnath on April 25 and Badrinath on April 27.
In his statement after attending the pilgrimage review meeting chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the minister said that online registration for the pilgrims started on Tuesday. The pilgrims can register on the Tourism department website registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or on WhatsApp number 8394833833. They can also register on the toll free number 1364. He said that pilgrims can choose any of the four options to register for the Char Dham Yatra- online, via an app, on call and by WhatsApp. As in the previous year, the government is expecting that a large number of people will undertake the Char Dham Yatra this year.
During the past four days Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) guest houses have registered bookings worth Rs 2.5 crore while 9,000 people had registered on Tuesdaay alone for Badrinath and Kedarnath. A slot-token system has been started for queue management at the shrines while instructions have been issued to establish a control room to provide registration and Yatra related information to the pilgrims, he said.
