HC lifts ban on liquor sale in tetra packs, directs install QR code

The Nainital High Court has disposed of a PIL filed regarding the sale of liquor in tetra packs. The PIL raised the issue of increasing pollution in the state.

With the disposal of the PIL, the ban on the sale of liquor in tetra pack has been lifted. The court has asked the government to ensure that QR code is put on tetra packs and an incentive of Rs 10 be given per pack to the buyers for recycling. The state government said in the affidavit that the manufactures have been asked to put QR codes on all the products sold in tetra packs. Satisfied, the court disposed of the PIL.

A hearing was held on the petition of Champawat resident Naresh Chandra before a division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Alok Kumar Verma.

Taking up the issue of single use plastic, the court asked the state government to present in the court a proposal to put bar code on all products sold in tetra packs and take back their wrappers to the sellers.
