Maharaj thanks Union minister for Rs 242 crore approval for State’s Panchayats

The State’s Panchayati Raj minister Satpal Maharaj has thanked the Union Panchayati Raj and Rural Development minister Giriraj Singh for Rs 242 crore approved for the State’s annual work plan 2023-24 for empowering Panchayats, capacity building of representatives, officials of linear departments and self help groups. Maharaj said that the annual work plans of various States including Uttarakhand were discussed in the meeting of the third central executive committee under the national Gram Swaraj Abhiyan 2023-24 in New Delhi on Thursday. Considering the Rs 267.42 crore work plan recommended by the State, the ministry approved work plan amounting to about Rs 242 crore. Under the approved plan Rs 139.98 crore has been approved for the capacity building and training component. This is aimed at capacity building and training of three-tier Panchayat representatives and officials of linear departments associated with 29 subjects and self help groups.

He further informed that apart from training activities, Rs 27.63 crore has been approved for exposure visits. This will be used to take 12,500 Panchayat representatives on exposure visits to study activities of Panchayati Raj institutions in Uttarakhand and other States so that best practices of other States can be implemented according to the conditions in Uttarakhand. During the meeting on Thursday, approval in principle was also granted to Rs 27 crore for 100 new Panchayat buildings, CSC room construction in 100 Panchayat buildings and computers in 500 Gram Panchayats in the State.
