Pauri police conducting verification drives, slapping fines on errant landlords

Having launched the tenant verification drive on April 1 in view of Char Dham Yatra and to maintain peace, the Pauri district police have penalised eight landlords for renting out their properties sans verification and imposed a fine of Rs 80, 000 on them.
This apart, the district police launched a three-day special verification drive across the district last week and acted against 85 landlords for not doing the verification of their tenants and imposed a fine of Rs 8,50,000.
As per the information received from the district police department, police had conducted verification of 439 tenants, 932 labourers and 202 vendors in different parts of the district during the special drive.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pauri senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey had given strict instruction to all the station officers in the district to launch verification drives in their jurisdictional limits in view of the Char Dham Yatra and to maintain peace, given the spike in crimes.
It is further learnt that the district police have been conducting identity verification of students, labourers, tenants, domestic helps and vendors from other states working and living in the district. Besides, the district police claim that they are vigilant on suspicious persons.
During the three-day special verification drive, the house owners whom police prenalised include 69 from Kotdwar, nine from Srinagar, two from Devprayag, two from Srinagar, two from Laxmanjhula and one from Satpuli. The police also imposed a fine of Rs 18, 000 on 71 vendors for the violation of rules under relevant sections of Uttarakhand Police Act.
