In latest Uttarakhand news, in a major tragedy, at least 15 people, including some police personnel, were electrocuted to death at the Namami Gange project site on the banks of Alakananda river near Chamoli bazaar in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand as a transformer exploded at the project site. It is learnt that 24 people were present at the site when the tragedy occurred. While the casualty figure stands at 15 at present others present at the site sustained severe burn injuries and they are being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh. It is learnt that the side railing of the river dam had live electricity flowing through it. The project site caretaker died first having touched the railing and then others dropped down dead being electrocuted as they too touched the railing. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the tragedy, said the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
