Congress demands justice for Ankita Bhandari, stages silent protest

Braving the rain, Congress leaders and workers organised a silent protest at Gandhi Park on Saturday. The protest was organised against the delay in justice to the family of Ankita Bhandari.

Large number of Congress party leaders including the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat, MLAs and the office bearers of the party attended the protest.

After the end of the protest, the PCC president Mahara said that the law and order situation in the State is at an all time low and the crime against women us increasing at fast pace. He said that on an average three rapes occurred in a day in the year 2022. Mahara said the Congress will continue to wage a battle till the culprits in the murder of Ankita Bhandari are brought to book and the name of the VIP involved in the case is exposed.

 Former CM Harish Rawat said that the administration and police adopted a lackadaisical approach in the Ankita Bhandari murder case from the day one. He said that a bulldozer was used to destroy evidence in the case. Harak Singh Rawat said that the cases of atrocities on women are increasing in the State.  The Badrinath MLA Rajendra Bhandari said that a teacher of an engineering college in Pauri committed suicide after accusing the head of department of harassment but no action was taken in the case except for transfer of the accused. Congress MLAs Vikram Singh Negim, Ravi Bahadur, Virendra Jati, Vice president Mathura Dutt Joshi, Vijay Sarawat, Hira Singh Bisht, Manish Khanduri, Garima Dasauni and a large number of party workers attended the protest.
