The first meeting of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ committee, formed by the Centre on September 1 under the chairmanship of the former President Ram Nath Kovind, would be held in New Delhi on September 23. The former President himself shared this information. Notably, Narendra Modi, on assuming charge as the Prime Minister in his first term in 2014, has remained vociferous while pitching for One Nation, One Election that would include even the local body elections. It, if executed, would not just save massive expenses being incurred for holding elections all the year round every year but also keep the developmental works going on uninterrupted. Ram Nath Kovind during his tenure as the President supported the PM in this matter.

Aside from the chairman Kovind, the committee has the Union home minister Amit Shah, the Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and the former J & K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as the members among others.
