STF arrests cyber criminal wanted in 20 States

The cyber police station of the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a cyber criminal who is wanted in 20 States of the country and allegedly involved in a scam worth at least Rs 28 crore. The accused Mohammad Waqar (33) was arrested from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. He is a member of the gang which dupes people by luring them to earn quick money by liking YouTube videos and subscribing to YouTube channels, said the deputy superintendent of police of the cyber crime police station, STF, Ankush Mishra.  He said that the cyber crime police station received a complaint in June in which  it was stated that unknown persons contacted the complainant Sunny Jain through WhatsApp, claiming to be the HR of a company and offered him a job by luring him to earn Rs 3,000 to 8,000 per day. The complainant was then added to a Telegram group and after some days, he had lost Rs 14.18 lakh to the cyber fraud. Mishra said that a case was registered against an unknown accused and the investigation was handed over to cyber police inspector Devendra Nabiyal. He said that the cyber police started the investigation via in-depth technical analysis and collected evidence which revealed that recently arrested cyber fraud Harmeet Singh Bedi from Ludhiana was also allegedly involved in this crime. The name of Mohammad Waqar came to light during the investigation. He belongs to Jodhpur and the STF team arrested him from there on Sunday. The team also recovered four mobiles, four SIM cards, one laptop, one passbook and a stamp. The DSP said that a preliminary analysis of the case has revealed a scam of at least Rs 28 crore which can possibly be another national-level scam. Waqar is wanted in 20 States and about 113 complaints are registered against him in 16 States across the country including six FIRs in Rajasthan. The senior superintendent of police of STF Ayush Aggarwal has appealed to the public not to fall prey to any kind of lucrative opportunities, fake sites and unknown opportunities to double the amount or other offers. Before applying for any kind of online job, make sure to get the complete verification by the company concerned and immediate authorities immediately in case of any fraud, added the SSP.
