Tigress translocated to Rajaji gives birth to four cubs

One of the tigresses translocated from Corbett tiger reserve to Rajaji tiger reserve in the past has given birth to four cubs. The big cat is one of the three tigresses and one tiger translocated from Corbett so far to revive the tiger population in the western part of Rajaji tiger reserve. According to the Forest department officials, the regular monitoring of the translocated big cats has ascertained that a tigress recently gave birth to four cubs. They state that this is a major success in the efforts aimed at reviving the tiger population in Rajaji.

The tigers translocated from Corbett to Rajaji were first kept in a special enclosure where they were monitored for some time. After getting them acclimatised to the area, the big cats were released in the wild. After being released in the wild, the tigers were regularly monitored using satellite collar, camera traps and local patrol teams.

Reacting to the birth of four cubs, the State’s Forest minister Subodh Uniyal said that this is a major achievement in wildlife conservation efforts in Uttarakhand. He said that success in such efforts will help in forest and wildlife conservation while also providing new opportunities based in eco-tourism to the local communities. Principal chief conservator of forests (Wildlife) and the chief wildlife warden Samir Sinha congratulated the Rajaji director Saket Badola and his team for this development. He said that the regular monitoring of these tigers should be ensured. Sinha also appreciated the Corbett team for the successful translocation of the tigers to Rajaji.
