While addressing a seminar and public awareness programme hosted by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) on elimination of child labour at Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district, the senior vice president of Kumaun Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) Alok Kumar Goel said that there was no child working in any of the industrial units run by the entrepreneurs here. Besides, regular checking operations conducted by the entrepreneurs make sure that no contractor succeeds in engaging children as labourers. He also appealed to all the entrepreneurs to stop child labour if there is any, he said.
Speaking at the seminar, the chairperson of SCPCR Geeta Khanna who presided over the seminar admitted that the percentage of children engaged in work in the State’s industrial units was almost nothing as compared to the figures of other States. She exhorted all, particularly the entrepreneurs, to ensure that no child is engaged in work in their industrial units, adding that engaging children in labour not just thwarts their development but also affects their education.
