RFID and Aadhaar card to be considered for simplifying Char Dham Yatra registration

Chief secretary Radha Raturi reviewed the report of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak on the carrying capacity of Char Dham and directed officials to prepare an action plan for a smooth and safe pilgrimage. In a meeting chaired by Raturi on Tuesday, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card based registration system and Aadhaar based registration were discussed to simplify the registration system of pilgrims. A detailed discussion was held on the study report prepared by the director of IIM Rohtak and his team regarding the carrying capacity and standard operating procedure of the Char Dham Yatra and to make the pilgrimage more convenient and safer for people.
During the meeting, the chief secretary directed that an attempt should be made to accurately assess the carrying capacity of the Char Dham for the action plan to be made for a smooth and safe pilgrimage. In the action plan, special attention should be paid to issues like effective arrangements for medical and emergency services for the pilgrims, effective management and monitoring of the Yatra and strengthening the local economy while preserving the local ecology. Raturi directed officials to accord priority to improvement in the condition of roads, traffic jams and arrangement for feedback from pilgrims in the action plan. In view of the safety and convenience of the Char Dham pilgrims, implementation of an SMS weather update system, providing medical facilities on the Yatra route under public private partnership model or CSR, implementation of batch-wise Darshan system for crowd control in the Char Dham temples and review of parking capacity were also discussed.
