The police on Thursday arrested a man Amzad from Jalandhar, Punjab on charges of luring an 18-year-old girl with the promise of marriage. He had allegedly kidnapped last year too when she was a minor. He also allegedly misled her and forced her to convert her religion with the help of a lawyer Raisuddin Siddique, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that a case was registered against Sahaspur resident Amzad on June 27, 2024 in Vikasnagar police station by the victim’s family who said that he had lured and kidnapped their 18-year-old daughter in addition to stealing cash and jewellery from their house. It was revealed during the investigation that he had kidnapped the girl last year as well but the police had arrested him. The case is still pending in court though he was released on bail in April 2024. After securing the bail, Amzad along with accused Siddiqui allegedly made a plan to convert the girl to Islam illegally and to lure her away from her home so that Amzad could get the victim on his side in the said case, the SSP claimed. He said that after raiding various places where the accused could have possibly hidden for the past several days, the police finally arrested him from Jalandhar on Wednesday after receiving confidential information. He said that the police had arrested Siddiqui earlier on July 6. The young woman told the police that Amzad took her to different places and sexually exploited her on the pretext of marriage. The police have added relevant sections in the case against the accused, the SSP added.
