AIR awards top grade to Bisht in Garhwali folk music

Padma Shri recipient folk artist Basanti Bisht was awarded the top grade in Garhwali folk music by All India Radio (AIR) in Dehradun on Friday. According to officials at AIR Dehradun, Bisht received the top grade on July 19 from the head of AIR Shivram Singh Rawat, along with the title Vidhushi. They informed that Bisht had previously received a ‘B’ grade in Garhwali folk music during the Swar Pariksha conducted by All India Radio Najibabad in 1996. Subsequently, she was awarded ‘B High’ and ‘A’ grades in 2013. The top grade is the highest grade awarded by All India Radio in the field of music, and it was given to her after careful consideration of her eligibility.
Notably, Bisht was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2017 for her contribution to the field of art. In addition to these accolades, she has received many other awards.
