Governor launches She for STEM programme

The ‘She for STEM’ programme was launched at the Regional Science Centre, Vigyan Dham here by governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh on Saturday. The programme being undertaken by Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) in collaboration with Vigyan Shaala International Foundation aims to empower young women in the State by sparking their interest and involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The governor also inaugurated a digital library, a STEM dashboard, and the Lab on Wheels project dashboard at Vigyan Dham.

 Underlining the importance of the programme, Singh

described it as a big encouragement for women. He said that increasing participation of women in science and technology will not only increase their career opportunities but also bring positive change in the society.

UCOST director general Durgesh Pant provided an overview of the current status and role of women in the fields of STEM. He emphasised that STEM education is a demand of the times and will serve as a crucial link between social and economic development. He also spoke about the council’s efforts in the field of STEM education, including Lab on Wheels, STEM labs and science conferences in remote areas.
