In latest news from Uttarakhand, on the second day of the three-day monsoon session of the State Assembly, the opposition Congress MLAs staged dharna on the staircases of the Vidhan Sabha, protesting against the worsening law and order situation and the Centre unleashing central agencies on some important opposition leaders to stifle their voice. They also demanded actions against the SEBI chief for colluding with a few capitalists.
Among the protesting MLAs were the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Yashpal Arya, Bhuwan Kapri, Mamta Rakesh, Sumit Hridayesh and Adesh Chauhan. The MLA from Lansdowne Dilip Rawat staged sit-in on the stairs, drawing the State government’s attention to the leopard scare prevailing in the mountainous areas. He demanded a day to be devoted to the discussion on the forest policy during this monsoon session.
Given the aggressive posture the opposition MLAs displayed, they were likely to corner and tear into the State government on several issues on the second day, opined political observers.
