The three-tier Panchayat organisation held a dialogue programme with the Panchayat representatives of Dehradun on Wednesday on their longstanding demand for ‘one State one Panchayat election.’ The programme was conducted under the Samwad Yatra which commenced on August 22 across the State. In the programme, the representatives of the organisation engaged in discussions with the three-tier Panchayat representatives regarding the single-point demand aimed at enhancing the organisation’s strength.
According to the officials of the organisation, they have consistently been advocating for the implementation of the ‘one state one Panchayat election’ in Uttarakhand. They highlighted that due to the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the development projects and Panchayat meetings remained stalled for two years during the previous term of the three-tier Panchayat system established in 2019. Consequently, the normal functioning of the Panchayats were impeded.
The officials further said that during this initiative, the organisation is engaging with representatives from three-tier Panchayats in each district to educate them about the significance of having unified state-wide Panchayat polls. They are also discussing the reasons behind their demand of extending the term of the three-tier Panchayat system in the State.
The Yatra will culminate on September 4 and the rural body representatives are confident that the chief minister will act promptly on this matter.
During the event, the Dehradun district Panchayat president Madhu Chauhan expressed optimism about the government’s supportive stance, stating that victory for them in this matter is assured.
Meanwhile, the organisation’s patron, Jagat Martolia emphasised the supremacy of the organisation over individual interests, affirming that the three-tier Panchayat system would grow from strength to strength.
