The vice chairman of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) Banshidhar Tiwari directed officials to take strict action against those violating basement parking standards in Dehradun city. He instructed that any complex found violating the standards must face immediate action. He also called for a progress report on the actions taken against these violations. He stated this in a review meeting held on Monday. He asked MDDA engineers to identify potential locations for parking construction in the city and to initiate necessary steps in this direction. He also reprimanded the engineers for their handling of unauthorised constructions and emphasised that individuals who have obtained proper construction permits should not be unnecessarily harassed with notices.
During the meeting, Tiwari also instructed the creation of an MDDA-owned nursery. He stated that establishing a nursery would make MDDA self-reliant and eliminate dependence on external sources for plants. He also stressed on the need for large complexes and group housing societies in the city to adopt solid waste management and rainwater harvesting practices more extensively. He suggested holding discussions with relevant stakeholders to strengthen these measures effectively. Tiwari also reviewed the ongoing plantation drive in the city. The officials informed him that about 80 per cent of the target of planting 1,00,000 trees had been achieved. Tiwari recommended that the focus should be on planting more fruit-bearing and shade-providing trees.
