PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Uttaranchal Roadways Karmachari Union general secretary Ashok Chaudhary has warned that if two months’ pending salaries of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) employees are not released soon, the union’s agitation will be intensified at the State level.

Chaudhary said that drivers, conductors and other workers under UTC have not received salary for the last two months – June and July. The month of August has also passed and salary for that month is also due. He said they approached authorities concerned but were told that they did not have funds.

In view of this, the union commenced agitation from Thursday in phases in two branches so that work does not get hampered. The Union has 20 branches across the State, out of which initially on Thursday two branches – ISBT Dehradun and Transport Nagar – commenced protest over non-payment of salaries.

He said that on Thursday a Dharna was organised by Dehradun depot of Uttaranchal Roadways Karmachari Union, Dehradun Mandal in front of the assistant general manager’s office at the ISBT in Dehradun, in which about 60 members participated. Similarly, a one-day Dharna was organised by employees of Pahad depot at a workshop in Transport Nagar in which 45 members participated.

The union general secretary further informed that a meeting of the Rural depot branch was also organised. In the meeting, employees protested against non-payment of salaries for the past two months at their depot and a demand letter/notice was sent to the station manager. In the meeting, it was decided to hold a one-day agitation/work boycott from September 16, 2026. About 105 members participated in the meeting.

Chaudhary said that the UTC has to pay around Rs 150 crore towards salaries, DA and other dues of retired, current regular and contractual employees. He warned that if the corporation does not immediately pay salaries of the last two months and ensure salary payment by the 7th of every month, and if no concrete policy is made by the corporation management to stop illegal operation of private vehicles, the movement will be taken to the State level very soon and a fierce agitation will be carried out across the State.
