With the commencement of the Sharadiya Navratri, a significant number of devotees were seen at city temples on Thursday. The Shardiya Navratri began nationwide on October 3 and will continue until October 11. Throughout this period, worshippers pay homage to the goddess. On the first day of Navratri, a large crowd of devotees gathered at temples to pray, sing Bhajan Kirtan and engage in other religious practices.
Considering this, a priest of the temple at Dalanwala Jagmohan Dimri noted that devotees visit temples early in the morning to offer prayers, flowers, Chuni and other offerings to the goddess on the first day of Navratri. Many also fast for the nine days of Navratri. Additionally, Bhajan Kirtan ceremonies will take place regularly at their temple until the end of Navratri, he informed.
Further, a devotee Manju Bhatt said that it is a tradition in her family to pay a visit to the temple early in the morning on the initial day of Navratri. She added that she observes a nine-day fast during Navratri and kicks off the festivities by visiting temples. In addition, she disclosed that she adorned her home shrine, breaks her fast in the evening while offering prayers to the goddess at her residence temple and underscores the significance of purchasing various items to mark the religious significance of Navratri.
“I have patiently waited in line for two hours just to offer my prayers to the goddess on the first day of Navratri. Navratri is a primary festival celebrated by all individuals following the Hindu religion. Further, I have committed to fasting for all nine days and plan to distribute holy offerings on the concluding day of Navratri,” shared another devotee, Himant Bindra.
Many devotees have been witnessed visiting the famous temple of Dehradun district, Daat Kali, to offer prayers on the first day of Navratri. Additionally, it has been reported that during these nine days, many city temples will also organise Jagran to offer prayers to the goddess.
