Saturday, 05 OCTOBER 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Internal issues within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) have reportedly delayed the declaration of the date of the 38th National Games slated to be held this year in Uttarakhand. According to Sports and Youth Welfare special principal secretary Amit Sinha, the Sports department is fully prepared to host the mega sports event. He said that the State administration is waiting for the decision of IOA regarding the dates on which the games will be held.

Notably, it has been decided that the 38th National Games will take place in Uttarakhand this year. The Sports department claims that it has been preparing for a long time for the successful organisation of the games. The department had also sent a letter to the IOA to finalise the date for the National Games in Uttarakhand, but as of now, the IOA has not made any official announcement regarding the date. Recently, Sports minister Rekha Arya met the IOA president PT Usha and asked for an early announcement of the date for the National Games. Sinha stated that the department has not yet received any information regarding the declaration of the date from the IOA. The delay in announcement of the date for the national games is due to internal issues within the IOA. He reiterated that the department is fully prepared to successfully organise the National Games in Uttarakhand. He also emphasised that it is anticipated that the games will take place in Uttarakhand this year.

It will be recalled that commenting about the preparation of the National Games earlier, the Sports department director Jitendra Sonkar had stated that the department has already prepared 90 per cent of the infrastructure required for the upcoming National Games. The remaining 10 per cent will be completed during the event in the State. He further stated that 34 games are set to be included in the National Games in the State and that the department is contemplating the addition of three more games to the roster.
