Cultural activities, music enthral visitors on third day of Virasat

Musical performances and various cultural activities enthralled visitors on the third day of the Virasat Festival 2024 here on Thursday. The day began with a craft workshop in which school students learned to create hand bracelets, pottery and various items from waste. The evening programme started with the lighting of the lamp and chief guests including Dehradun Cantt MLA Savita Kapoor, ONGC director (Exploration) Sushma Rawat and others.

In the first cultural performance, artists from Goa captivated the audience. Multilingual Goan singer, Elvis Goes, performed along with his music group, international artists from Goa’s Kepemchim Kirnam, and Shri Guru Kala Mandal led by Mahesh Gaude from Ponda, Goa, gave enthralling performances. A sitar recital by Avanindra Shiolikar also captivated the audience. Shiolikar was accompanied by Shubh Maharaj on tabla. 

The final performance of the evening featured Malini Awasthi, who performed Hindustani music forms such as Dadra, Thumri, Kajri and Chaiti. She was accompanied by Shubh Maharaj on tabla, Dharmnath Mishra on harmonium and Vinayak Sahai on sarangi. Malini Awasthi is a renowned Indian singer known for her folk music. Trained in classical music, she is equally adept in Hindustani music forms like Dadra, Thumri, Kajri, and Chaiti.

Apart from the cultural activities and musical performances, stalls with varied products from across India and beyond also attracted crowds at the venue.
