The State government has approved the appointment of three new faculty members at the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali (VCSG) Government Institute of Medical Science and Research in Srinagar. This decision is intended to address the shortage of faculty, the Health and Medical Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said.
He informed that the appointments include Dr Dinesh Singh as associate professor in the department of ophthalmology, Dr Neha Kakran as assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology and Dr Anil Kumar as assistant professor in the department of microbiology. All appointments were made through walk-in interviews conducted under the supervision of the vice chancellor of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, he said.
Rawat further informed that these appointments are on a contractual basis for the next three years or until regular appointments are made. Earlier, faculty members have also been appointed to vacant positions in various departments of Srinagar Medical College through walk-in interviews, leading to an increase in academic activities and improved medical facilities at the affiliated hospital. The minister emphasised that with these appointments the government’s objective is to achieve 100 per cent faculty availability in all government medical colleges in the State, ensuring that teaching and medical services in hospitals can function without interruption. Plans are underway to fill faculty positions in all medical colleges soon, he added.
