On expected lines, pandemonium broke out in Rajya Sabha on the first day of the winter session on the issue of the Adani group founder Gautam Adani’s recent bribery indictment in a US court, forcing the Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to adjourn the house till November 27. Importantly, there will be no sitting of Parliament on Tuesday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly’s adoption of the Constitution in 1949.
Earlier, the Chairman refused to allow 13 notices served under rule 267, including seven that sought a discussion on the Adani indictment in US court with the Congress and the Left parties insisting a discussion on the matter. Leader of the Opposition and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that while the Adani bribery indictment had tarnished India’s global image the Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept on backing the industrialist.
