The Election Commission of India has started the process of delivery of notices to the voters with anomalies in the second phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the State. The commission has issued notices to more than 24 lakh voters (both mapped and unmapped) and has so far delivered notices to 4,07,687 out of them.
Interacting with the media on Thursday, the additional chief electoral officer (ACEO), Vijay Kumar Jogdande said the names of 71,33,785 voters have been included in the draft voter list in the State. He appealed to the voters to check their names and other information in the draft voter list.
He informed that the draft voter list has been made available on the CEO office website www.ceo.uk.gov.in as well as at the DEO/ERO/BLO level. The ACEO said that voters whose information was found to be discrepant or who did not include details regarding the mapping of the last SIR when filling out their information are being issued notices through BLOs. After the notices are issued, voters are given sufficient time to respond to them.
Jogdande stated that in all assembly constituencies, BLOs and other officials will be available at the booth level to hear notices issued by electoral registration officers (ERO) and assistant electoral registration officers (AERO). The BLOs will prepare a report after reviewing the voter’s documents. He added that EROs have also been instructed to set up camps at the booth level or in locations near the booths for the convenience of voters. The ACEO informed that the commission has given time to the voters to file claims and objections on Forms VI, VII and VIII between July 14 and August 13.
He informed that the notice period and disposal of claims and objections will be from July 14 to September 11, 2026. The voters can file an appeal in the District Magistrate’s office within two weeks if unsatisfied with the decision of ERO. In case of dissatisfaction with the decision of the DM, the voter can further file an appeal to the CEO under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
