DM orders probe into claims of private referrals in Vikasnagar sub district hospital

The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has ordered an investigation into the public allegations that doctors in the sub-district hospital in Vikasnagar were prescribing medicines and diagnostic tests from outside sources instead of utilising hospital resources. He also directed to take strict action against the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the hospital and other staff members for reportedly being on leave without prior permission. Bansal conducted a surprise inspection of the sub-district hospital on Friday where he addressed several complaints and implemented immediate corrective actions to improve healthcare services.
During his visit, the DM inspected various facilities, including the OPD, pharmacy, vaccination room, pathology lab and X-ray department. Highlighting the need for better patient care, he issued instructions to increase the number of medicine counters to manage the growing crowds effectively. The DM also reviewed the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and expressed concern over its underutilisation. To ensure its effective operation, he approved an increase in manpower. He also inquired about the number of deliveries performed at the hospital and emphasised the importance of maintaining proper care for newborns and mothers. He also directed adverse entries to be made against the hospital’s CMS for being on leave without prior permission. He also instructed to take action against other absent staff members too. Some people also complained to him that doctors there were reportedly prescribing medicines and diagnostic tests from outside unnecessarily. In response, Bansal ordered an investigation into these complaints, assigning the Vikasnagar Tehsildar to submit a detailed report.
The DM also directed to make suitable arrangements to ensure meals are provided to patients within the hospital from the next month after complaints of patients. He also instructed the chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Sanjay Jain to take strict action against those responsible for the substandard cleanliness. The DM assured the public that any negligence or misconduct affecting patient care will not be tolerated. He emphasised that those found guilty of jeopardising public health will face strict penalties.
